Why Frozen Transport in Dubai Is a Harder Job Than the Temperature Suggests
Keeping a load frozen in Dubai is not the same problem as keeping it frozen in a cooler climate, and it’s worth understanding before you book any freezer van.
Through the summer, ambient temperature across the emirate sits at 45°C and pushes past 50°C on the worst afternoons. A freezer van holding −18°C inside is therefore fighting a gap of more than 65°C against the air outside — for hours, on a highway, with no shade. Every door opening on a multi-drop route lets a pulse of that heat into the box, and the unit has to recover before the next stop. A van that copes easily in February runs close to continuous in July.
Two things decide whether a frozen load survives that, and both are operational, not luck:
Pre-cooling before loading
A refrigeration unit is built to hold a frozen load, not to freeze a warm box down with cargo already inside. Load frozen product into a van that's been sitting in the sun and the surfaces of the box start thawing the edges of your cargo before the first delivery. Every one of our vans is pulled down to temperature before your goods go in.
Door discipline and route order
On a run of eight or ten drops, the clean deliveries come down to how long doors stay open and which stops come first. The most sensitive cargo comes off early while the box is firmly cold, and routes are sequenced so the longest legs happen before the afternoon peak. That is the difference between a purpose-built freezer service and a general van with a cooling unit bolted on — and in a Dubai summer, it shows up at the receiving bay.
Freezer Van Specifications
Our freezer vans are purpose-built for deep-freeze transport — not chiller vans run colder. Each refrigerated van in the fleet is specified to hold its set point through repeated door openings in peak UAE heat.
- Temperature range: −18°C to −25°C, held constant
- Refrigeration units: Thermo King (V-500 MAX / V-800 MAX) and Carrier Transicold (Xarios 350 / Xarios 600) — matched to van size, Gulf-rated for 50°C ambient operation
- Insulation: Multi-layer polyurethane with thermal sealing
- Cooling: Standalone + engine-powered for uninterrupted running on long routes
- Interior: Anti-bacterial GRP panels and food-grade flooring; optional racks

How We Actually Run Frozen Routes in the UAE
The everyday work tells you more than any spec sheet.

Compliance & Standards
Frozen food transport in the UAE is regulated more tightly than chilled, because a temperature failure carries heavier consequences. Our freezer vans meet the standards that matter at the receiving bay and at inspection:
- HACCP-certified cold-chain operations
- Dubai Municipality approved for food transport
- ADAFSA-compliant for frozen food deliveries into Abu Dhabi
- ESMA UAE.S GSO 2055-1 frozen threshold (−18°C) held as a maximum, with an operational target below it for buffer
- Continuous logging on every trip, printable for audits and inspections
- GPS-tracked vehicles with 24/7 dispatch
Because we hold the documentation as standard, your consignments clear the gate instead of being turned back — and your own food-safety records get the proof they need without chasing us for it.
Who Rents Our Freezer Vans
Ice cream & frozen dessert brands — daily retail distribution and event runs where texture is the product.
Frozen meat & poultry suppliers — multi-stop wholesale and warehouse restocking across the emirates.
Seafood importers & fisheries — port-to-market and restaurant supply on time-critical routes.
Frozen food distributors & supermarkets — fixed daily routes and overflow between branches.
Pharma & medical — frozen vaccine, biotech, and specimen transport with validated temperature logs.
Freezer Van vs Freezer Truck vs Chiller Van
Feature | Freezer Van | Freezer Truck | Chiller Van |
|---|---|---|---|
Temp range | −18°C to −25°C | −18°C to −25°C | +2°C to +5°C |
Ideal goods | Ice cream, frozen meat, seafood | Bulk frozen, long routes, wholesale | Fresh produce, dairy, flowers |
Load size | Small–Medium (up to ~2 ton) | Medium–Large (3–10 ton) | Small–Medium |
When to choose | Daily frozen city & multi-drop | Heavy or inter-emirate frozen bulk | Cooling is enough, not freezing |
Quick rule: if it must stay frozen, a freezer van covers daily city routes and a freezer truck covers bulk. If it only needs to stay cool, a chiller van is cheaper. Above roughly 2 tons, move up to the freezer truck.

Before You Book — Quick Checklist
Confirm the cargo needs true freezing (−18°C or below), not just chilling.
Match van size and roof type to your load volume and stop count.
Decide driver-included or self-drive (self-drive needs a valid UAE licence and deposit).
Confirm cross-emirate coverage if your route leaves Dubai.
Ask for the temperature-log format your food-safety process needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I self-drive a freezer van in Dubai, and what do I need?
Yes. Self-drive is available on a valid UAE driving licence (a standard car licence covers our 1 to 2-ton vans) plus a refundable security deposit and Emirates ID or trade licence for the booking. We hand the van over pre-cooled and show you the set point and the temperature logger before you leave, so you’re not responsible for freezing the box down — only for door discipline on your route. Most first-time frozen-cargo renters take the driver option and switch to self-drive once they know the routine.
How long does a freezer van take to reach −18°C before I can load?
From a van that’s been standing in the sun, a genuine compartment-wide pull-down to −18°C takes noticeably longer than the air reading alone suggests — the walls and floor keep radiating heat after the air is cold. That’s why we pre-freeze at our yard before dispatch rather than at your bay, and it’s why a same-day booking is best placed a few hours ahead. If you load into a box we’ve already pulled down, your cargo goes straight into a stable frozen environment with no warm-up lag.
Do you charge extra for pre-cooling, weekend, or public-holiday dispatch?
No. Pre-cooling is part of every freezer van booking, not an add-on, and we dispatch 24/7 including weekends and UAE public holidays at the same rate — the frozen supply chain doesn’t stop for the calendar, and neither do we. The price we quote covers the vehicle, refrigeration, GPS, and temperature logging; only fuel and Salik sit outside it.
What happens if the refrigeration unit fails mid-route?
Every van carries live temperature monitoring, so a drift is flagged before it becomes a loss rather than discovered at the delivery bay. If a mechanical issue does occur, our dispatch team arranges a replacement freezer van and, where the load allows, a transfer — the priority is getting your cargo back under −18°C fast. This is a large part of why businesses moving irreplaceable frozen stock use a maintained fleet rather than a single owner-operator van.
Can one freezer van carry both chilled and frozen cargo on the same trip?
Only with a dual-zone (partition) van, which splits the box into a frozen compartment and a separate chilled one — useful for a delivery that needs both at once, like an event or a mixed retail drop. A standard freezer van runs the whole box at one sub-zero set point, so chilled-only items would freeze. If your loads are regularly mixed, ask for the dual-zone model or, for bulk mixed loads, our refrigerated truck.
Which is cheaper for my volume — a freezer van or a freezer truck?
Up to roughly 2 tons on city and short inter-emirate routes, a freezer van is the more economical and more agile choice — it parks where a truck can’t and costs less per day. Past that, or once you’re running the same route twice to move one load, a single freezer truck (3–10 ton) works out cheaper per delivered ton than repeated van trips, and gives you one temperature record instead of several.
